What are Motives in Silver Palace?

Motives are Silver Palace's weapons. If you searched for Silver Palace weapons, guns or the weapon banner, this is the system: every character equips one Motive, and the game never calls it a weapon. A Motive gives two base stats, HP and ATK, plus one named effect, and it comes at 3, 4 or 5 stars. Every name in the beta files follows the same pattern, "The [word] Mystery".

Each Motive carries one of six Identities, the story archetypes Hero, Guardian, Outlaw, Victim, Saviour and Witness. Any character can equip any Motive, but the effect only works on a character of the same Identity; the Motive screen says so in red, for example "Non-Hero characters do not receive this effect." Identity is not Combat Style: a Hero can be a Striker DPS or a Break Suppressor. Our combat styles guide explains the difference.

Saviour6Captain Kaboom, Gucia, Red Rose

The Lucidity and Bitter Tea Mysteries appear twice in the files, once for each Detective sibling: the art changes, the stats and effect do not, so each has one page here.

How the Motive banner works

Motives come from their own banner, the Monologue, not from the character banner. In the Dichotomy beta the Limited-Time Monologue took Deduction Shots and the Standard Monologue, "Hidden Pages", took Insight Shots. Hako filmed the rules panel, which Elementa marked "for testing reference only":

Rule (CBT2 Monologue)Value
5-star Motive, base rate0.8%
5-star Motive, overall rate with guarantees1.8%
Featured 5-star guaranteed within80 pulls
Chance a 5-star is the featured one50%
4-star Motive, base and overall rate6% and 13%
3-star Motive, base rate93.2%
Bonus per 5, 4 and 3-star Motive20 Mind Shards, 4 Mind Shards, 8 Mind Grains

What happens after a lost 50/50 is still open: Hako reads the panel as giving no guarantee, fan-compiled data says the next 5-star is the featured one. Either way, 80 Deduction Shots always get the featured Motive, which is the number to plan around. The full pull maths is in our gacha guide and pull calculator.

The CBT2 rules panel names 5 five-star and 14 four-star Motives in the limited pool, with The Burning Stone Mystery featured next to The Duplicity, The Would-Be Adults and The Ivory Tower Mysteries. The Blade Wind Mystery was filmed on a Motive screen, and The Bloodbath Mystery was a day-5 login reward in Elementa's own beta notice. The other names in this database come from the game files only. Elementa's "Hidden Pages" reveals began with The Doppelganger Mystery on 29 October 2026 and The Chivalry Mystery on 30 October.

Levelling and breakthrough

Levelling a Motive is called Amplify, and it only raises HP and ATK. Every Motive breaks through at Lv. 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, each time for Ounce and its Identity's books (Instinct, Insight, Challenge and Legacy), and the files cap it at Lv. 80; beta footage only reached 60. The bill depends on rarity alone, so every Motive of a given rarity costs the same:

RarityOunce per breakthrough (Lv. 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70)Ounce to Lv. 80Instinct / Insight / Challenge / Legacy to Lv. 80
5-star1,250 / 1,875 / 2,500 / 3,750 / 5,000 / 12,50026,87512 / 8 / 8 / 16
4-star1,000 / 1,500 / 2,000 / 3,000 / 4,000 / 10,00021,50010 / 7 / 7 / 14
3-star800 / 1,200 / 1,600 / 2,400 / 3,200 / 8,00017,2007 / 5 / 5 / 10

On every Motive page, the stats at Lv. 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 are the values after that breakthrough. Beta footage shows both sides on 4-stars with the same base stats: 646 HP at Lv. 20 before it (Blue Screen Of Tech) and 848 HP after it (Shrike).

Each Identity has one stage for its books, and the three higher books can also be crafted. Ounce comes from Daily Routine: Funds Gathering, Info Exchange, Cognito Assembly, City Events.

Resonation Tiers (refine)

Duplicates do not touch HP or ATK. Each duplicate fed to a Motive raises its Resonation Tier by one (some players call it refine), from Tier 1 to Tier 5, and only the effect grows. On 31 of the 38 Motives the scaling numbers double from Tier 1 to Tier 5, a quarter of the Tier 1 value per step; Shrike's Would-Be Adults frames show that step, 31.25% to 39.06% CRIT DMG.

Our view: a second copy of a 5-star Motive is a luxury. The worst case for two featured copies is 160 Deduction Shots for an effect a quarter stronger, so put Shots into characters first. The Motives system guide has the footage behind these rules.

Ask on Discord
What are the weapons in Silver Palace?
Silver Palace's weapons are called Motives. Each character equips one; it gives HP, ATK and a named effect that only works on a character of the same Identity (Hero, Guardian, Outlaw, Victim, Saviour or Witness). 38 Motives are in the Dichotomy beta files.
How many Motives are in Silver Palace?
38: 9 five-star, 17 four-star and 12 three-star, from the Dichotomy beta game files checked on 1 November 2026. Two four-stars, The Lucidity and Bitter Tea Mysteries, are listed twice in the files with one art per Detective sibling and identical stats.
Is a Motive of another Identity worth equipping?
Only as a stat stick. It still gives its HP and ATK, but its named effect stays off unless the wearer shares its Identity. A Motive of the right Identity is usually the better pick, even at a lower rarity. The Burning Stone Mystery, Cinderella's signature, works fully for Bentham too, since both are Outlaws.
How does the Silver Palace weapon banner work?
Motives come from the Monologue banner. In the beta rules a 5-star Motive had a 0.8% base rate (1.8% overall), a 50% chance to be the featured one, and the featured 5-star was guaranteed within 80 pulls, paid in Deduction Shots on the limited banner. The rules were marked for testing reference only.
How do you upgrade a Motive in Silver Palace?
Two ways. Amplify raises its level and HP and ATK up to Lv. 80, with Ounce and Identity books at each breakthrough (Lv. 20 to 70); a 5-star costs 26,875 Ounce in total. Resonate uses duplicates to raise the Resonation Tier from 1 to 5, which strengthens only the effect.
Which Silver Palace Motive has the highest ATK?
The Doppelganger Mystery, The Ordinance Mystery and The Burning Stone Mystery share the top ATK, 582 at Lv. 80, all 5-star. Within a rarity, more ATK means less HP: the strongest 4-star ATK, 476, comes with 3,704 HP, against 4,762 HP on the 370 ATK ones.
