Shrike's CBT2 gear breakdown supplied the Identity-restriction, Resonate and Would-Be Adults Mystery footage (1:28 to 1:58) and the one-Motive, four-duplicate rules.

On this page
Motives are Silver Palace's weapons: each character equips one, pulls come from the Monologue banner, and the Motive Skill only works on a character of the same Identity. Everything below comes from the Dichotomy beta (CBT2, July to August 2026), filmed by Shrike, Hako and Blue Screen Of Tech, and checked against Elementa's official beta notices. Launch is 14 December 2026, and any number here can still change.
Updated 31 October 2026: earlier versions of this page said the Motive banner had no 50/50. The in-game rules filmed by Hako say the opposite: a 5-star Motive drawn before the guarantee has a 50% chance to be the featured one. The section on the 50/50 below has the details.
What are Motives in Silver Palace?
A Motive is the weapon slot on a character. Shrike sums it up in their CBT2 gear breakdown: a character can equip one Motive, Motives come in 3-star, 4-star and 5-star, and each one belongs to an Identity. GxG Noir adds the shape of the item: a Motive gives base stats (HP and ATK on every screen we have seen) plus one named passive, the Motive Skill.
Motives are not the only gear. Each character also wears four Implements and one Epiphany book, and the team shares a Reactor that holds Catalysts. The Motive is the one gear piece you pull for on a banner, which is why it carries most of the build questions.
Motive names follow one pattern in the Dichotomy client: "The [word] Mystery". The first beta (Monotype, January 2026) used a different pattern; Elementa's official Monotype notice lists login and shop Motives called "Riddle of the Other Half" and "Riddle of Curiosity". Our Motives list has every name seen so far.

How does the Identity restriction work?
Every Motive carries one of the six Identities: Hero, Guardian, Witness, Outlaw, Saviour or Victim. The Motive screen states the rule in red under the stats. On The Curiosity Mystery, a Hero Motive, the line reads "Non-Hero characters do not receive this effect."
GxG Noir reads that rule narrowly: any character can equip any Motive, but only a character with the matching Identity gets the Motive Skill. The footage backs the first half. In 银Khye's capture, the Hero Motive The Doppelganger Mystery is marked In Use on Cynthia II, a Witness. The screen does not show whether a mismatched Motive's HP and ATK still count, so treat that part as likely, not proven.
Identity is not the same as Combat Style. A Hero can be a Striker DPS like the Detective or a Break Suppressor like Alf. Our combat style guide explains the difference. For Motives, only Identity matters:
| Identity | Playable characters in the Dichotomy beta |
|---|---|
| Hero | Detective, Rex, Alf |
| Outlaw | Cinderella, Bentham |
| Saviour | Red Rose, Captain Kaboom, Gucia |
| Witness | Cynthia II, Argos, Grimm |
| Guardian | Lorin, Firtho, Gratia |
| Victim | None yet. Fan-compiled data lists Victim Motives, such as The Little Mermaid Mystery, with no character to use them. |

Shrike's advice is to start from the signature Motive: the one with the character's likeness on the art is usually their best fit, especially at 5-star. Hako makes the opposite point about how wide that fit is. Cinderella's signature, The Burning Stone Mystery, works for every Outlaw, so Bentham can use it too. Signature Motives in Silver Palace are Identity gear first and character gear second.
How does the Motive banner work?
Motives come from their own banner, the Monologue. Elementa's official Dichotomy notice names two:
- the Limited-Time Monologue "Her Heart, the Flames Within", featuring the 5-star Outlaw Motive The Burning Stone Mystery;
- the Standard Monologue "Hidden Pages".
The limited Monologue takes Deduction Shots, and the standard one takes Insight Shots, by GxG Noir's and Hako's walkthroughs. Reactor Crystals, the premium currency, convert into either; Hako read the price as 360 Reactor Crystals for one pull and 3,600 for ten.
The rates come from the in-game rules panel that Hako filmed. Elementa labelled them "for testing reference only".
| Rule (CBT2 Monologue) | Value |
|---|---|
| 5-star Motive, base rate | 0.8% |
| 5-star Motive, overall rate including guarantees | 1.8% |
| Featured 5-star guarantee | 80 pulls |
| Chance a 5-star is the featured one | 50% |
| 4-star Motive, base and overall rate | 6% and 13% |
| Chance a 4-star is a featured one | 50% |
| 3-star Motive, base rate | 93.2% |
| Bonus per 5-star, 4-star, 3-star Motive | 20 Mind Shards, 4 Mind Shards, 8 Mind Grains |
Hako also reads the rules text as saying that Limited-Time Monologue events share their guarantee counter, which only resets when you get the featured 5-star. If they are right, pulls you put into one Motive banner carry over to the next one. The text is ambiguous, and Hako says so themselves. The character banner, the Repertoire, has its own counter and its own 100-pull guarantee; see the gacha guide.
Some Motives also come without pulling. In the Dichotomy beta, the 5-star Saviour Motive The Bloodbath Mystery was a day-5 login reward, by Elementa's official notice. Blue Screen Of Tech got the Detective's Motive card from an early story challenge, and Rexlent says some Motives are sold in the exchange shop.
Does the Silver Palace Motive banner have a 50/50?
Yes. The rules panel says: "When drawing a 5-star Motive, there is a 50.0000% chance it will be the featured Motive." The full panel is shown in our Motives list.
What happens after a lost 50/50 is the open question:
- Hako reads the rules as giving no guarantee after a loss, so you can lose several 50/50s in a row. The only hard stop is the 80-pull guarantee.
- Fan-compiled data (silverpalacemeta) says the next 5-star after a loss is always the featured one.
The panel Hako filmed has no "next one is guaranteed" line, so we follow their reading until the launch client says otherwise. The practical answer is the same either way: 80 Deduction Shots always get the featured 5-star Motive, and you plan around that number, not the 50/50.
How do you level up a Motive?
You Amplify it. The Amplify Motive screen eats upgrade materials and a coin fee, and raises the Motive's level and its two base stats. Blue Screen Of Tech's capture takes one Motive from level 1 to 20 in a single step: HP goes from 168 to 646 and ATK from 21 to 83, for 1,510 coin. That is close to four times the starting stats.

Shrike calls the Amplify materials bookmarks and says each Identity needs its own breakthrough material at set level caps. The caps on screen in the footage are level 20, then 30 after the first breakthrough, and 60 on a fully raised 5-star in 银Khye's capture. Fan-compiled data puts the final cap at level 80. Amplify only touches HP and ATK. Rexlent says as much in their endgame video: levelling gives base HP and ATK, and only duplicates raise the effect.
What does Resonate do?
Resonate is the duplicate system, and it is the only way to make the Motive Skill stronger. Feeding a duplicate raises the Motive by one Resonation Tier (the popup calls it an "Advancement"). Shrike says four duplicates take a Motive to its maximum, which gives five Tiers in total; fan-compiled data also lists five.
Shrike's footage shows how big one step is. Their The Would-Be Adults Mystery, a Saviour Motive, reads 31.25% CRIT DMG and 24% ATK for 15s at Tier 1. After one Resonate, it reads 39.06% CRIT DMG and 30% ATK. Both numbers grew by exactly a quarter: 31.25 × 1.25 = 39.06, and 24 × 1.25 = 30. We only have this one step on camera, so do not assume every Tier adds the same amount.

Our position: a second copy of a 5-star Motive is a luxury. With a 50/50 and an 80-pull guarantee, the worst case for two featured copies is 160 Deduction Shots, for a Skill that is a quarter stronger. Spend Shots on the character first, and treat Tier 2 as something that happens when the 50/50 goes your way.
Which Motive should you use?
Three rules hold across the creator footage:
- Match the Identity first. A Motive without its Skill is a stat stick. Check the Identity table above before you spend a material.
- Use the signature Motive if you have it. Shrike calls the Motive with the character's art their usual best fit. The Burning Stone Mystery for Cinderella is the clearest case: its CRIT Rate and stacking CRIT DMG match a character who, in AmethystAbrams' words, scales off CRIT Rate.
- Look at what the Skill triggers on. Many Motive Skills fire on a Skill, an Ultimate or a Tactical Assault. The Would-Be Adults Mystery pays off after a Tactical Assault, so it suits characters you switch in often.

Frequently asked questions
5 answers, always open
- What are Motives in Silver Palace?
- Motives are Silver Palace's weapons. Each character equips one, Motives come in 3-star, 4-star and 5-star, and each one carries an Identity (Hero, Guardian, Witness, Outlaw, Saviour or Victim). A Motive gives HP and ATK plus a passive called the Motive Skill. This is Dichotomy beta (CBT2) data, as of 31 October 2026.
- Can any character use any Motive in Silver Palace?
- A character can equip any Motive, but the Motive Skill only works if the character's Identity matches the Motive's. The client says it in red on the Motive screen, for example 'Non-Hero characters do not receive this effect.' Cinderella's signature Motive therefore also works for Bentham, the other Outlaw.
- Does the Silver Palace Motive banner have a 50/50?
- Yes, in the Dichotomy beta rules. When you draw a 5-star Motive on the Limited-Time Monologue, it has a 50% chance to be the featured one, and the featured 5-star is guaranteed within 80 pulls. Hako reads the rules as giving no guarantee after a lost 50/50; a fan site says the next one is guaranteed. The 80-pull guarantee holds either way. Rules were marked 'for testing reference only' (checked 31 October 2026).
- How do you upgrade Motives in Silver Palace?
- Two ways. Amplify spends materials and coin to raise the Motive's level, HP and ATK (one capture shows level 1 to 20 taking HP from 168 to 646 and ATK from 21 to 83 for 1,510 coin). Resonate feeds a duplicate to raise the Resonation Tier, which strengthens the Motive Skill; four duplicates reach the maximum, by Shrike's CBT2 video.
- What currency do you use on the Silver Palace Motive banner?
- Deduction Shots on the Limited-Time Monologue and Insight Shots on the Standard Monologue, by CBT2 creator footage. Reactor Crystals, the premium currency, convert into either; Hako read the price as 360 Reactor Crystals per pull in the Dichotomy beta. Launch prices are not confirmed as of 31 October 2026.
